Baptism of Simon Sanchez Navarro
Last Names of Nuevo Leon

This is the November 1, 1707 baptism of my 8th great-grandfather Simon Sanchez Navarro who was baptized in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico.

I first came across the baptism date for my ancestor in the eBook that Crispin Rendon did for me some years back. I finally had the chance to get a copy of it form FamilySearch. You can see the image above and the transcription below.

But first, lets talk a bit about this record. Something that caught my eye was that it mentions that Simon and his parents are mestizos. A mestizo is someone that has Spanish and Indigenous parents.

The second thing that is interesting is that it states that Simon was 15 days old at the time of baptism. If my calculator is correct then this means that Simon was born on October 17, 1707.

Finally, it is important to know that his godparents are listed as Miguel Guajardo and Petrona Montes de Ocon (might be Oca).
