1634 Baptism of Diego Gonzalez de Esquivel
Last Names of Nuevo Leon

This post contains the 1634 baptism of Diego Gonzalez de Esquivel. He was baptized at the catholic church of San Bartolome in Tepetitlan, Hidalgo, Mexico. Diego is my 9th great-grandfather.

The baptism lists his name as Diego Gonzalez, but we find that he used his name as Diego Gonzalez de Esquivel. It is still unknown to me where the Esquivel surname comes from, but he lived in a time when you could choose any surname from any of your grandparents. I still have not found the names of his grandparents.

The baptism record mentions that he is the son of Bartolome Gonzalez and Isabel Gomez. His mother Isabel also used the surname of Dominguez, she appears int he records as Isabel Gomez or Isabel Gomez Dominguez. His godfather is listed as Gabriel Hernandez de la Espada.
