Last Names of Nuevo Leon

In this post, you can learn more about my current project concerning the Records of Montemorelos from 1712 to 1930. If you have ever researched this area then this post will be of interest to you.

As you know, it has been a while since I have done a blog post. My two boys are off for the summer and I spend several days a week at Santa Teresa del Olmito Ranch fixing it up. In the coming months I will write about the ranch and how it ties in to the genealogy of my sons.

For now, lets talk about the records of Montemorelos.

Since early this year I started to work on Indexing the Church Baptisms, Deaths, and Marriages for Montemorelos covering 1712-1930. But why stop there, right?

I also worked on indexing the Civil Registration records of Birth, Death, and Marriage from 1859-1930.

I then created each record set into a Gedcom file using a process that has taken years to perfect. Don't even ask how it is too complicated to explain.

After the Gedcoms were created I merged all the duplicates on each file and thus the family groups started to emerge. In the coming weeks I will talk about each record set and provide you with a count of people, families, and the top surnames for each. It is very interesting to see the numbers.

Today I am working on my last record set for Montemorelos, but I am still not done.

As soon as I am done I will merge the Church Baptism, Death, and Marriage records into one big file and restart the process of merging all duplicates to recreate all the family groups.

Once completed I will do the same for the Civil Registration records.

Finally, I will merge the Church and Civil records and repeat the process of merging all duplicates. Thus all the families will have been recreated using the six records sets.

This process is the best way of doing a full and complete study of a region since these records are not just for the city of Montemorelos but all the territory that fell under its jurisdiction.

In the future, I may do a presentation about this in one of the upcoming We Are Cousins Virtual Genealogy Conferences.

You may ask your self this is too much work why is he doing it? The answer is, even though I have only a few ancestors for Montemorelos I want to make it easier for you to find your ancestors.

Once I merge the Church and Civil records for Montemorelos, I will merge them with my existing database of 774,000. Thus, linking all these families to other families prior to 1712. Some will even link up to the original founders of Monterrey in the late 1500's.

A major benefit of all this research is that when ever I publish a new book or redo a book on the book series "Last Names of Nuevo Leon" these families will be represented.

Also, did you know that if you are a member of Las Villas del Norte you can access my database of 774,000 individuals? And in December all the Montemorelos research will be added to Las Villas del Norte and thus you will have access to all these research.

For now be on the look out for my next post about Montemorelos.
