In this post, you can learn more about Genealogy Research at UTRGV (University of Texas Rio Grande Valley) in Edinburg, Texas. This university has the biggest genealogy repository between San Antonio and Monterrey.
You will find genealogical material for South Texas, Coahuila, Nuevo Leon, and Tamaulipas in their special collections located on the 4th floor.
They have hundreds of if not thousands of books and many of them are very rare to find. I recently went to do research myself. I was looking for some marriage records for Camargo in the late 1700s.
Unfortunately, they did not have copies of the original church marriages but they did have an index that was made by the local government of Camargo probably in the middle of the 1930s.
Before you ask, FamilySearch does not have them either.
UTRGV has many records for Reynosa, Mier, Camargo, and many other towns that you will not find anywhere else.
If you ever visit the Rio Grande Valley, make sure to pay a visit to the university, but before you do here are some things to be aware of.
